Recap on previous events

Masters Regatta

First Masters Regatta of the season - A  Masters regatta took place last Saturday with an event organised at short notice by Kevin Horan and his team from Horowhenua, to replace the cancelled NZ Masters Regatta.

Together with Jacs Rush they combined and did  a great job after a 6.30am decision to shift the event from Foxton, where the Manawatu River was in flood, to Whanganui. After a 4k long distance race, racing moved into 500m and 250m mode, and perhaps the highlight was the AWRC Mixed 8 winning both.

Our photo shows this crew of Sue O’Leary (Cox), Brocky, Trevor, Colin, Murray, Steph, Tash, Anna and Jacs putting the Central RPC Masters squad to the sword.

A special thanks to Sue O’Leary who, after coxing the Interprovincial crews early in the morning, gave her time for the rest of the day.

It was a well-organised event, thoroughly enjoyed by all, and hopefully will be on the calendar as an annual event.

Blinkhorne & Carroll 8K Winter Series Regatta

The Blinkhorne & Carroll 8K Winter Series Regatta took place on Sunday 13 September, with Brocky and Trevor having the best prognostic time of 88.81% out of the 16 competing crews. The "semi-retired' Tom Monaghan featured in the bow of a composite coxed quad with Jordan Manville, Michael Sturdee, Joseph Barritt, and Campbell Monk (Cox) for 2nd place with a time of time of 29:34 (88.08%)

A massive thank-you to all of our sponsors

Whanganui Toyota has provided AWRC with a truck for the last four seasons. If your family needs a Warrant of fitness  or repairs on any make of vehicle, please support Whanganui Toyota, so they can continue to support us!

AWRC has also been extremely fortunate recently to obtain funds from Lion Foundation towards our insurance costs; Grassroots  Foundation (previously Infinity Foundation)  for new sculls; and the  Government Community Resilience Fund to assist with our costs over the Covid period.  Without help from these organisations,  AWRC would not be the Club we are today. The  Club is extremely grateful for the support of these agencies.
