Messina Su’a Selected For NZ Universities Eight
We congratulate Messina on securing a place in the NZ Universities Womens Eight to compete at the Australian Universities Regatta in August.
Messina is currently attending Otago University and performed with distinction rowing for Otago at the NZ Universities Regatta at Ruataniwha in April.
AWRC Prizegiving 2023
Our Lounge was packed to capacity on Saturday 19 May, which was a night where the Club and Schools achievements were celebrated enthusiastically!
“ Jake Newton was undoubtedly the most successful member this season – securing the Oscar Trophy (Most Outstanding Novice); the Jack Brock Memorial Cup (Quality, Technique and Team Spirit); Jones Family Trophy (Most Outstanding Sculler) and Display Associates Trophy (Most Outstanding Crew – with Nicky Maxim in the Boys Novice Doubles at NZ Championships and at Maadi Cup)”

RECAP: Legion of Rowers Regatta - Karapiro (13 May)
Both recovering from the travails of their advancing years, Richard Brock and Trevor Rush again performed with credit at this regatta. Interestingly, this action shot of four of our 2022 Masters featured on the front page of this year’s programme!

Club Yoga
Our comfortable lounge continues to see increased activity.
Axel has recently introduced Yoga Sessions on Monday evenings which are well-supported.
Quiz Nite Fundraiser
A remarkable evening organised by Becky Ivory and her outstanding team saw a much-needed $2,500.00 added to the Club's coffers!

RECAP - Winter Series 6km (11 June)
A record 47 rowing boats and wakas, including 16(!) AWRC entries competed in this monthly event on perfect water, but chilly conditions.
The overall winner was Kevin Horan from Horowhenua with a prognostic score of 83%. Liam Collin and Axel Dickinson were the first AWRC crew with a 4th placing.
Volunteer of Year Award
The opportunity was taken at the after-match function of the 6km race at Union Boat Club, to present Grader Howells, with the Whanganui Rowing Association’s Volunteer of the Year Recognition.
“Grader found it very humbling to be accorded the award”.
RIP Jim Davidson
We sadly note the passing of Life Member Jim Davidson. Jim was a competitive rower for the former Aramoho Boating Club in the 1940’s and early 1950’s and stroked the winning ABC Youth Eight to victory at the NZ Championships in 1949. He also filled the role of Club Treasurer until the mid-1950’s.
RIP Peter (PJ) Scott
Peter will be remembered as a popular supporter and bus driver when the Aramoho Boating Club used Cooper Motors to travel to regattas in the early 1970’s.
PJ had an extremely active life and was well known for his passion for motor cycles, being both a participant and organiser of the Whanganui Cemetery Circuit annual event.
To members of Jim and PJ’s families, the Club extends our condolences.
